Lecture summary

This lecture introduces the student into the topic of BIM-GIS integration by explaining why it is
beneficial to combine these models and also what the difference between interoperability and full
integration is. In its second part, the lecture takes up the main similarities and differences between
the models and why the differences cause challenges to the integration.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this lecture, the learner is expected to be able to:

  • Explain why to integrate BIM and GIS based on their main concepts
  • Understand differences between interoperability and full integration
  • Know the differences between BIM and GIS that challenge the integration
